History
Staccato opened its doors in Februaury of 2001. Serving as the area's
only true piano bar, Staccato and its Kawai baby grand hosted some of DC's
finest jazz, classical, and pop piano players in an intimate lounge setting.
Martini specials were a favorite at the bar. The couch lounge upstairs provided
a nice retreat from the livelier downstairs bar.
Soon, Staccato began to diversify
its entertainment offerings. Rock bands playing "unplugged" fit perfectly on our
cozy stage, and with our patrons as well. A couple of dissenting voices led to
some soundproofing additions. Like a wise man once said, "you can't please EVERYONE now,
can you?"
Staccato now hosts national and local bands of all styles. Come by for a great
night of original music, food and drink. BRAND NEW: Our upstairs lounge now features
a pool table. And if you need more distractions, we got board games! lots of board games!...
Performances
Staccato is Washington's most intimate live music venue.
With a commitment to diverse and original music, Staccato has fast become a favorite
stopover for touring bands and local musicians alike. From indie rock to cabaret, folk

Our intimate atmosphere and great acoustics makes it an ideal place to hear
live music any night of the week.
Open Mic Night - Every Tuesday
Every tuesday, local musicians take over the stage for
Open Mic Night. Anyone brave enough to face a crowd is
encouraged to sign up. All styles of music and skill
level are welcome (you gotta start somewhere).
Sign-ups are done in-person anytime after 7pm on the
board near the front door.
We usually kicks things off around 8:30pm,
and performances are limited to 3 or 4 songs (at
discretion of host). Leave your drummer at the bar as
there is no percussion allowed during open mic (long
story, but "cranky neighbors" should cover it).
Staccato supplies the mics and guitar cords, you just
need to bring your ax. There is a piano on stage for
performers to use as well.
Other open mic rules to keep in mind are:
*Bring your guitars upstairs until it is your time to
perform, in other words: please don't leave your
guitars downstairs on the floor.
*Tune your guitar before you go on stage, the management
thanks you for that consideration.
*No horns (cranky neighbors'rule applies here)
WHAT TO EXPECT - The atmosphere on open mic night is
loose and easygoing. No tryouts (from what I hear,
Nashville clubs need to get over themselves), and no
attitude. So bring your thirsty musical friends along
for what we humbly call "the best open mic night in
DC".
Comedy Night
One sunday a month, Staccato's Comedy Showcase features local and
national comedians delivering their best punch lines. Hosted by Chris White at
dcstandup.com, the next Comedy Night
is August 24th. Doors open at 7pm, an open mic hour starts at 7:30pm and the main show
starts around 8:30pm. Come see the next Seinfeld! or just come and heckle, thats fun too!...
